About Wigs

Lace Front? Full Lace? Glueless?

Understanding Wig Cap Construction

Creating high-quality lace wig stock hair has many different types of cap construction. Understanding the differences will help you choose the most secure, undetectable, and comfortable fit possible.  Private Stock Hair™ provides full lace, lace front, u-part units, and cranial prosthesis from approved medical insurers.  All lace and silk human hair units manufactured from Private Stock Hair™ are handtied (each hair individually inserted into the cap and double knotted). Private Stock Hair™ wigs are not constructed by merely sewing weft (tracks) on a wig cap by hand.

Full Lace Wig Cap

What is a full lace wig

A full lace wig, a popular lace wig type for black hair is made entirely of lace material which means that it can be parted anywhere. Full lace wigs offer much more versatility of hairstyle options, but the cap material is very delicate. Full lace wigs are entirely hand-tied. A full lace wig requires adhesive around the entire perimeter of your head (from hairline to nape). Delicate wig caps, such as silk and full lace offer very little if any stretch. However, this wig can be secured by an adjustable backstrap if desired. Full lace and silk wig caps are very delicate and require much more careful handling and upkeep than lace front wigs.  Adhesive (wig glue) is required to wear this wig style.

Lace Front Wig Cap

What is a lace front wig

A lace front wig is Very durable and dependable. The front of the wig has Swiss lace with hand-tied hair only in the top 3" from the hairline with a little stretch from ear-to-ear comfort. Lace front wigs may only be parted in the small 3" section in the crown area. The back of the wig is made by sewing skin wefts on the wig with technical precision.

Skin wefts are extremely thin, but strong wefts that have been sewn to the back of the wig with an industrial machine. Skin wefts create the ultimate ultra-natural and virtually undetectable weaves and wigs. Lace front wigs may only be parted in a small section in the crown area. The lace wig cap has a little stretch from ear-to-ear for added comfort. The wig can be secured by the attached adjustable backstrap and side-combs.

Lace front wigs may also be sewn along the perimeter (edges) of your braid-down foundation rather than getting a traditional sew-in hair weave using our human hair extension wefts (tracks).   Lace front wigs are ideal for new wig wearers as well as women looking for durable and quick wig life! Available   Adhesive is not required to wear this wig style.

  • one of the most natural-looking on the market
  • strong lace
  • usually requires adhesive
  • can only part in a small section in front
  • cannot wear a very high ponytail

Glueless Lace Front Wig Cap

What is glueless lace front wig

A glueless wig is essentially a lace front wig that does not require glue to adhere the wig to your hairline. Features:  adjustable backstrap, ear-to-ear elastic band, baby hair, and bleached knots.  Adhesive is not required to wear this wig.

  • one of the most natural looking on the market
  • strong lace
  • usually requires adhesive
  • can only part in a small section in front
  • cannot wear a very high ponytail
  • less expensive than full lace

U-part Wig Cap

What is a u-part wig

A U-part wig is essentially a lace front wig with a 'U' shaped opening in the crown area of the wig.  The wig is designed to allow you to cover the top of your wig with your own hair so as to create an extremely realistic scalp and hairline.  An upart wig also allows for better ventilation.

  • use your leave-out to blend over the wig cap opening
  • durable lace
  • does not require adhesive
  • can only part in a small section in front
  • cannot wear a very high ponytail

Machine Weft Wig Cap

What is a machine weft wig

A machine weft wig is made entirely by an industrial machine using skin weft-like tracks. The tracks are closely sewn together horizontally. The hair cannot be parted without seeing the tracks on a machine-made wig. Additionally, the tracks are sewn to the edge of the cap material at the hairline. To create a more natural hairline you can comb-over a small portion of your hair exposing your own natural hairline and baby hair. Machine wefted wigs are a popular choice for women with thinning edges or aversion to adhesives. Our full sewn units are secured with adjustable backstrap and side combs. Thick hair, type 4a, 4b-c wigs are a great choice in machine weft because most very thick natural hairstyles like our Curlfriend™ or Breathless™ can be shaped and styled naturally without seeing an actual appearance of the scalp. Adhesive is not required to wear this wig.

Wearing Your Wig

How to attach a lace wig

  1. Create a smooth foundation for the wig by braiding your hair down or cover your hair with a wig cap.
  2. While holding the wig with both hands, position the wig so that you can see the inside of the wig cap.  The adjustable backstrap should be at the top. Adjust your grip on the cap so that one hand is on both sides of the backstrap.
  3. Hold your head down and begin to slowly cover your head      with the wig from the nape at the back of your head upwards to your front hairline.
  4. Adjust the cap according to how and where you think the hairline looks most natural.
  5. Gradually trim excess lace by only cutting small pieces at a time.
  6. Apply adhesive to your intended hairline area then carefully press the lace over the adhesive. Use a blow dryer on a warm setting to bond the lace for a flawless natural looking hairline.
  7. Style your baby hair and wig as desired.

How to remove a lace wig

  1. Secure the wig hair away from the hairline.
  2. Apply lace adhesive remover along the perimeter of the hairline.
  3. Carefully and slowly begin to peel the lace off.
  4. Use a mild shampoo to remove any adhesive residue from the unit.  Air dry and store on a wig form.

How to store a wig

Keep your wig on a wire wig stand, styrofoam form head, silk, or silk to satin bag when you are not wearing it. This will air out your wig, prevents agitation, and reduces stretching.  Keep your unit in a dry and cool area.  It is recommended to shampoo your PS Hair™ wig and allow it to completely dry before storing it.
